Stephen Gow

Stephen Gow is a dancer, teacher, and choreographer trained in hip hop, contemporary dance, and acrobatics. Originally coming from a background in professional gymnastics, Stephen’s movement pathway expanded after discovering breaking and contemporary dance where precision, power, and creativity began to meet curiosity and listening.

After multiple seasons performing with the Quantum Leap Youth Ensemble, Stephen went on to work professionally with a wide range of Australian and international artists including Taylor Swift, Psy, Jason Derulo, Timomatic, and Ricki-Lee. He has collaborated with choreographer Nick Power to create Compartmentalised and Cypher, touring nationally and internationally to venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Arts Centre Melbourne, Tanz im August (Berlin), and URB Festival (Helsinki).

Deeply rooted in street dance culture, Stephen has competed, placed, and won in numerous hip hop and breaking battles across Australia and overseas, with highlights including World of Dance New York, R16 B-Boy Championships, and the Destructive Steps World Finals.

Upon returning to Canberra, Stephen felt a strong call to give back to the community where his dance journey began. He dedicated eight years to youth dance education and choreography as Assistant to the Artistic Director at QL2 Dance, while also teaching at Project Beats. During this time, he created original works for QL2’s Playhouse and Chaos seasons and collaborated extensively with QL2’s company-in-residence, Australian Dance Party, contributing to works including Hyper Real (NGA), Water Tight, Powering the Dance, Moving to Zero, ENERGEIA, and From the Vault.

Stephen is also a board member of the Australian Breaking Association, supporting the growth and development of breaking in Australia and its inclusion on the international stage, including the 2024 Olympic Games.

Now, as Co-Director of Synergy Styles and a teacher at Praksis, Stephen brings a calm, grounded, and deeply embodied approach to movement. His teaching is guided by curiosity, clarity, and care offering practical tools, subtle adjustments, and thoughtful insights that help people build awareness of how their bodies move, respond, and adapt. Through strength, skill, and presence, Stephen supports students to move with greater efficiency, confidence, and connection, cultivating a sustainable and respectful relationship with their bodies.
